Final Show! 2 P.M. Sunday Matinée of “Cinderstein”

The 2 p.m. Sunday matinée this weekend will be the final performance of Moorhead High’s production of the comedy, Cinderstein, on May 1. Seats are still available. Tickets can be purchased at the door on the north side of Moorhead High School before the performance, but please arrive early to be seated in time for the show.

Tickets are $6 for students (up to age 18) and $8 for adults (ages 19 and older). Cash or check only.

The show has been providing some side-splitting laughs for audiences during its first three performances. The MHS production of Cinderstein is full of wacky characters, a twisting story line, and sight gags, too. It’s lots of fun and is appropriate for people of all ages who love a good laugh!

Cinderstein includes a combination of elements from Cinderella and Frankenstein, then wrapped into a “play within a play.” Like the actual performers, the characters in Cinderstein are high school students putting on a performance. Their drama teacher (in the play) authored her own version of Cinderella by combining the princess’s tale with the story of Frankenstein, but the production is bombing. The Fairy Godmother wants to be called the Fairy “Goshmother”; three new stepsisters must be added to the cast; some actors quit; plus, the extras are fed up with just being extras.

On top of that, the play includes a queen who never gets her lines quite right, and a tech guy who shows up in scenes when he should be running sound! After being forced to play the role of a girl, the boy worries that if his father, who is a sports fanatic, sees him his acting, then his career will be over. In spite of the director’s explicit instructions that the Prince’s Ball scene must be slow and elegant, the cast speeds it up so the boy won’t be seen by his father. However, the actress playing the queen can’t improvise and is incapable of keeping up with the fast pace. Then, when Frankenstein replaces Cinderella’s brain with the brain of a cat, this wacky production changes beyond even the director’s recognition!

Don’t miss the final performance!

“Cinderstein” Preview – Final Dress Rehearsal

Parents of the cast and crew of Moorhead High’s production of the comedy Cinderstein enjoyed a sneak peak of the show last night, watching the final dress rehearsal. Cinderstein is a quirky mash-up of two classic stories, framed by the story of the characters putting on a high school play.

Along the way, the actors pepper the director with questions and agitated attempts to change the script she’s written. The director is frustrated; the actors are coming and going as other responsibilities ebb and flow; the extras threaten to strike; and one poor kid is worried his dad will flip out if he sees him costumed as a woman. (But the rest of the cast has a hilarious solution for that.) Cinderstein is funny and unpredictable with the intertwining of story lines from both Cinderella and Frankenstein in a “play within a play.” It’s a new twist that has some hilarious scenes, including some great, physical comedy.

The production is fun for people of all ages, so enjoy some laughter this week! Performances run this Thursday through Sunday. Shows are at 7:30 p.m. on April 28, 29 and 30, plus a Sunday matinee at 2 p.m. on May 1. A sign language interpreter will be present at the April 28 show.

Tickets are $6 for students and $8 for adults. You can purchase them through at the Moorhead High School box office at 218-284-2345, at the high school activities office, or at the door on the north side of Moorhead High School before the performances.
